当历史的车轮驶进1949年，在新中国成立的喜悦中，武进人民医院应运而生。历经了新中国成立初期的艰难探索，改革开放时期的开拓奋进，新世纪的跨越腾飞，如今已成为一所医疗设备先进、技术力量雄厚、专业设置齐全，集医疗、教学、科研、预防于一体的三级甲等综合医院，是常州市第八人民医院、国家级爱婴医院、江苏省首批基本现代化医院、江苏大学附属武进医院、江苏省博士后创新实践基地、徐州医科大学武进临床学院、江苏大学硕士研究生培养单位、南京医科大学常州临床医学院成员单位和上海同济大学医学院教学医院。先后获全国巾帼文明示范岗、江苏省卫生系统先进集体、江苏省患者安全目标合格单位、全国改善医疗服务示范医院等荣誉称号。
医院现有本部、南院两个院区，总占地面积约12万平方米，总建筑面积16.3万平方米，核定床位1310张。拥有职工2300余名，其中享受国务院特殊津贴专家1名，国家级有突出贡献中青年专家1名，省级有突出贡献中青年专家1名，高级职称专家518名，博士、硕士395名，初步形成了知名专家领衔，中青年技术骨干挑大梁的复合型人才队伍。
医院科室设置齐全，共有临床医技科室45个，有内、外、妇产、儿、急诊、重症医学、麻醉等20个临床一级诊疗科目，3个医技一级诊疗科目。其中内科设9个二级诊疗科目，外科设8个二级诊疗科目。医学影像科设有5个二级诊疗科目。肿瘤科为江苏省临床重点专科，心血管内科、心胸外科、影像科、肾脏内科、急诊医学科、泌尿外科、神经内科、呼吸与危重症医学科、骨科、普外科、神经外科、消化内科、内分泌科、重症医学科、介入血管科、免疫风湿科等16个科室为常州市临床重点专科，中医科为第一批常州市综合医院示范中医科。心血管内科为常州市临床重点学科共建单位，中心实验室已通过国家卫健委评审验收。卒中中心被国家卫健委脑卒中防治工程委员会授予“高级卒中中心”，胸痛中心顺利通过国家级标准版胸痛中心认证，房颤中心通过“中国房颤中心”认证，心衰中心通过“中国心衰中心”认证。医院建有满足临床科研需求的现代化实验室，药物临床试验机构(GCP)成功完成国家药品监督管理局备案。
同时，医院的医疗装备服务水平也大幅提升。拥有国际领先的磁共振、双源CT、DSA等万元以上大型仪器设备1500余台（套）。复杂冠心病介入治疗、各型快速性心律失常射频消融术、各型永久起搏器安装术（包括希浦系统起搏治疗等）、脑血管内介入诊断与治疗、ERCP等血管、非血管及肿瘤介入等技术在市内领先；腹腔镜下胃肠、肝、胰肿瘤根治术；胰十二指肠肿瘤、肝门部胆管肿瘤根治手术；腹腔镜联合胸腔镜食道癌根治术、并熟练开展了人工关节置换、腰突症椎间孔镜微创治疗，脊柱骨折微创经皮螺钉固定，脊柱侧弯矫形，肩膝关节疾患的关节镜微创手术；重症心脏瓣膜置换及成形术、复杂性先心病的手术矫治、胸腔镜下复杂肺段、亚肺段切除术,非体外冠状动脉搭桥术,各种脑肿瘤的显微镜下或内镜下切除术、三叉神经神经球囊撕脱术、高血压脑出血的软通道治疗、脑动脉瘤夹闭术,合并腔静脉瘤栓的肾癌根治术、复杂性肾上腺肿瘤切除术、睾丸肿瘤腹膜后淋巴结清扫术、膀胱癌根治加原位新膀胱术，显微镜下精索静脉结扎术、盆底重建术、肿瘤分子靶向治疗等高精尖诊疗项目。尤其是“抢救前移，有效救治”为核心的急诊、急救、手术、监护、康复一体化救治新模式实现了院前急救无缝隙衔接。

医院始终坚持“科教兴院”，先后承担江苏大学临床医学本科班及徐州医科大学定向班驻点教学任务，同时承担江苏大学、南京医科大学、苏州大学医学院、上海同济大学医学院等医学院校临床实习，六个专业被江苏大学批准为硕士培养点，拥有硕士研究生导师、兼职硕士研究生导师31名，教授及兼职教授24名。近4年，共开展新技术、新项目307项，30项获省市区级新技术引进奖。近5年共获各级各类科研课题204项，获各级科学技术奖13项，省市医学新技术引进奖12项。发表SCI论文226篇，中华及北图核心级论文84篇，统计源论文171篇，省级论文1192篇，出版学术专著13部，获国家发明专利2项，实用新型专利246项。

医院深入开展“管理实院”，开展多层次、多形式的质控管理与培训，提高医务人员质量安全意识；加强核心制度的督查落实，实行手术分级管理；深入开展临床路径管理，大力推行电子化、信息化管理，建成了包括HIS、RIS、PACS、LIS、医生工作站、护士工作站等医院信息系统，成立了医院网站、办公自动化系统、电子图书馆、远程会诊中心、心电网络中心等。

Changzhou Wujin People's Hospital, which was established in 1949. It has evolved into a First-class comprehensive tertiary hospital, Changzhou Eighth People’s Hospital and national baby-friendly hospital that integrates medical treatment, education, scientific research health emergency and prevention and features state-of-the-art medical equipment, tremendous technical strength and comprehensive departments.
